North Wales is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The area was originally settled by Welsh immigrants as part of a 1702 land grant from William Penn, who originally named it “Gwynedd” for the homeland of its earliest settlers. Although the area was rather rural for much of its early history, the construction of the North Pennsylvania Railroad in 1852 changed this completely, and the population grew rapidly. Currently, the population is about 3,300 residents.
