Decorating With Pantone Color of the Year 2026

Every year, the Pantone Color Institute selects a color of the year that informs trends for the 12 months to follow. The selected color impacts more than you might think, and for many years, the Pantone announcement has been at the forefront of style and culture. At Blind Builders here in Feasterville, we follow trends so you don’t have to, including anything about color. Read on to learn about the color Pantone chose for 2026 and what impacts it might have on the world around you—as well as on your own home.

Cloud Dancer

This year’s color is Cloud Dancer, a shade of white described by the institute as “a billowy, balanced white imbued with a feeling of serenity.” However, among color- and trend-watchers, this year’s choice has caused more than a few raised eyebrows, because, as many point out, white is the absence of color, which might imply that the institute hasn’t chosen a color at all. But that certainly doesn’t mean the announcement should be ignored. After all, according to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, the selection is like a blank canvas “opening up new avenues and ways of thinking.”

Choosing the Color of the Year

In 1963, Pantone created the Pantone Matching System, a proprietary system used in a variety of industries—such as printing, graphic design, fashion design, and home décor—to manage colors, and since then, it has swayed trends in color for numerous industries, from fashion to automotive to interior design. Since 1999, Pantone has named a color of the year. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for new color inspirations. This may include new artists, fashion, all areas of design, and popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from new materials, textures, technologies, and effects that impact color. Part of how they reach a decision on the Color of the Year is to weigh current climate, past behaviors, and past trends to reach a balance on what they expect the upcoming year to need.

About This Year’s Color

Cloud Dancer was selected because it is a “lofty white neutral whose aerated presence acts as a whisper of calm and peace in a noisy world,” according to the Institute. A spokesperson added that the color “drifts between light and ethereal, a living calm that invites renewal, vision in serenity and creative release.” It has already been featured in fashion—in places like the Met Gala and the Venice Film Festival. It will doubtless appear in numerous other industries, like beauty and hair, packaging, and footwear. Plus, Pantone has partnered with brands like Motorola, Play-Doh, Post-it, and more, ensuring the color is part of each company’s lines throughout the year.

Using the Color of the Year

This color might have more practicality in a home than you might think. According to Pantone, Cloud Dancer “invites a space where function and feeling intertwine to build atmospheres of serenity and spaciousness, providing a refuge of visual cleanliness that inspires well-being and lightness.” The team says that Cloud Dancer “introduces a spa-like feeling into bathrooms and an open and spacious feeling in the kitchen” and that it pairs well with natural materials like wood and stone. Calling Cloud Dancer “a key structural color,” Eisman notes that “this is a shade that can adapt, harmonize, and create contrast, bringing a feeling of airy lightness.” If you’d like to add it to your space, consider pairing it with other colors; for example, choose an airy window fashion like Silhouette® Sheer Shades to bring color to the space, or go with a more natural material like Provenance® Woven Wood Shades to bring the outdoors in.
